Saving SimpleSet Exercises: Custom, Templates, and Drafts
Direct answer
In SimpleSet, creating an exercise inside a program does not automatically put it in your reusable library. An exercise created in the Designer belongs to that specific Exercise Set. To reuse the exercise, save it to Custom. To reuse the whole program, save it As Template. Autosaved drafts are a separate place to find unfinished work, with a documented retention limit.
The distinction is what you are saving: one exercise, a whole program, or work in progress.
Start with the thing you want to reuse
Here, a home exercise program, or HEP, means the program you build for a patient. SimpleSet calls the group of exercises in its Designer an Exercise Set. A template is a saved set you can use again.
The following map combines SimpleSet's instructions for creating a custom exercise, using Custom, and saving templates.
| What you want to keep | Documented action | Where to look |
|---|---|---|
| An exercise within the set you are building | Create the exercise in the Designer | That specific Exercise Set |
| That exercise as reusable content | Drop it into Custom | Custom tab |
| Your modified version of a SimpleSet exercise | Choose Save to Custom | Custom tab, under My Folders |
| A new exercise created for the reusable library | Choose + Create Exercise inside Custom | Custom tab |
| An entire reusable Exercise Set | Save, choose As Template, select a folder, add a title, and save | The selected template folder |
| Unfinished autosaved work | Use the documented autosave feature | Drafts, subject to its retention limit |
The first row is the important exception. An exercise can belong to a set without automatically becoming an item in Custom.
An exercise can exist without appearing in Custom
SimpleSet's custom-exercise instructions explicitly address this. An exercise created with + Create Exercise in the Designer does not automatically save into Custom. It belongs to the specific Exercise Set.
There is another route when you are changing an exercise SimpleSet already provides. Its Custom tab guide describes Save to Custom. That action creates a new custom exercise under My Folders.
These instructions explain a missing library entry without assuming the exercise was deleted. Check the original set and the intended destination before deciding what happened.
They do not establish how later edits affect already assigned programs. That is a separate question from where an exercise is stored.
Save the whole set when you want a reusable program
Use the template route when the thing you want to keep is the complete Exercise Set, rather than one exercise within it.
The Template Manager instructions include both a folder choice and a title before the final save. Keep those two details for the retrieval check below. Finding an exercise in Custom would not confirm that you saved the whole set in the template folder.
Autosaved drafts have a retention limit
Treat them as different destinations. The Template Manager guide says SimpleSet autosaves work every 15 seconds. It says autosaved Exercise Sets remain in Drafts for three months, then are deleted.
That documented limit is a reason not to treat Drafts as your permanent template collection. If you intend to keep a set for reuse, follow the explicit As Template instructions.
The help article does not establish a recovery process after that draft-retention period. This guide makes no promise that deleted drafts can be restored.
Check the destination in a practice demonstration
The following is a proposed software check, not a test we performed in a SimpleSet account. Use a practice example, not an assigned patient program.
Ask the demonstrator to check each destination separately:
- Exercise inside a set. Create a practice exercise in the Designer. Give it a recognizable practice name and show it within that Exercise Set.
- Exercise in Custom. Add that exercise to Custom using the documented route. Leave the original set, then find the exercise in Custom by its practice name.
- Set saved as a template. Save the practice set with As Template. Note its title and selected folder. Leave the original set, then locate the named template in that folder.
- Autosaved draft. Ask the demonstrator to show a practice Exercise Set in Drafts after the documented autosave interval. Record which draft they found. Finding that draft does not confirm the named template was saved.
For each step, write down the item's name, the save action, and where it was found. Keep the three destinations separate in your notes: Custom, the selected template folder, and Drafts.
If an expected item is absent, mark that result "not found." Ask the demonstrator to check the action and destination you recorded. Do not count a successful save message as proof that you found the intended item.
This check is only about where saved items appear. It does not test treatment content, colleague permissions, backup guarantees, or changes to patient programs.
For the separate patient-facing question, read what changes when you update an assigned home exercise program. That article covers named Medbridge and Physitrack workflows, not SimpleSet's update behavior.
